Roberto Carlos Martinez
LPC (DC, PA, VA), LCPC (MD), NCC, CCTP
Pronouns used: He/Him/His
My approach draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), focusing on solving current problems and modifying unhelpful thinking and behavior patterns. I do this through a multicultural and social justice approach and lens. What that means is I take into consideration the person’s varying identities and how the systems they live in impacts them. I focus on the client in a holistic approach. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for past disturbing memories and related events. I am a big fan of the benefits of group counseling. Joining a group provides a unique way to get support from others who are going through similar challenges.
As a clinician I have worked with at-risk youth, adults recovering from substance use disorders, and survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and/or human trafficking. My professional experience also includes working with marginalized communities including seniors, immigrant communities, LGBTGEQIAP+, and racially diverse folx.
